Summer is Hard

Now, don't mistake what I'm about to say for complaining or ungratefulness because I truly love my summer. It's the best season for a teacher to rejuvenate and come back the next school year refreshed and ready to go. That being said, I. am. BORED.

Going from a day planned to the minute and working 9+ hour days to having absolutely nothing to do doesn't sound hard, but it is.

I do a lot of sitting in front of the computer or lying in bed late because I can, but I don't want to do that. I don't want to feel lazy.

I think what I'm looking for is not just a hobby, but a hobby with a purpose. I look at my friends with kids and think how lucky that they'll always have something to do all summer, being a stay at home mom. And they're probably looking at me thinking how lucky she has all of that free time and has no one to be responsible for.

But how do I make my free time meaningful? There will be plenty of lazy days and trips to the pool, but I can't just stop doing. I need to make myself useful. I need to experience the new and the old. I need to educate myself by living life. I mean, really living!

Getting a summer job didn't seem like a great option because of my 3 week trip, but I need something. The teacher in me is ready to make myself a summer schedule because I just can't seem to function without one.

A schedule might seem a bit too structured for summer so I'll go with the next best thing...making a list!

Help me out! What suggestions do you have to keep me busy this summer?!

  1. Take a class at a craft store.
Do a photography scavenger hunt, using all the letters in the alphabet.
You're going to Europe, right? Try to find local food from each country you're going to visit to compare.
Visit the pretzel factory in East Dayton (Smales).

    Go berry picking.
    Hit up the drive-in theater.
Ride your bike at Riverscape or the bike trail across from the AF museum (and say hi to my Papaw while you're at it!).
Go to a professional sporting event--try a unique one, like the professional women's football team, or the Dayton Dutch Lions pro soccer team.
