Busy weekday schedules and a winter storm to start the weekend pushed the celebration a week past my birthday.
We headed to Troy to try The Caroline for the first time, but they were closed--boo. A quick glance around the square and I quickly set my sights on La Piazza.
We have been before for Valentine's Day so I knew that it would be the perfect place to celebrate. The Christmas decorations lit up the town and shops which made it feel that much more special.
They even decorated the restaurant for me! ;)
Once inside we cozied down into our booth and ordered a classic calamari starter, salads, and some fresh crusty bread with a parmesan cheese, olive oil drizzle.
Doing our best not to indulge too much we ordered the light portion of calamari which was more than enough for two! For the main course we both had the house specials. I had the sausage tortellini and Corey had the pan seared red trout.
Corey's was seasoned with lemon and capers which in our opinion kept it a bit on the bland side. My sausage tortellini was a the perfect amount of spicy and overall delicious.
It's been awhile since just the two of us took a step back from the rest of the world and spent a nice evening out together. I'm so glad that Corey suggested the outing!
On my actual birthday he prefaced my gift with a sweet card telling me how proud he was that I set and accomplished my half-marathon goal earlier this year. And then he gave me one of the best gifts I've ever received.
I love that I have this awesome memento to remember our first half-marathon. He sure knows how to make a girl feel special!
